Designed with care, for care

Oysta needed a telecare device which was compact, easy to hold and intuitive to use. These devices are essential for helping vulnerable people feel supported, not only at home, but allowing them greater freedom and independence.

Designing portable devices and wearables comes with a unique set of challenges; they to be small enough to carry and comfortable to wear but also be simple to use by people with reduced abilities, who typically require large text and buttons.

Visually, the design needed to be sensitively thought out. Commonly products for the care market are often aesthetically overlooked and less care is taken to make them desirable objects. We worked through several concepts, all focusing on gentle forms with contemporary, but appropriate details, before arriving at the chosen design.

A large part of the project was working through revisions of the screen and button layout. The UI interface is the most essential component of this product, and getting this right was paramount to creating the ultimate user experience. This device is a life-line for its users and in an emergency it needs to be incredibly clear how to get help.

“Intuitive in its design, the Pearl II is quickly adopted by the VIP (vulnerable independent person).”
