Toronto Wayfinding

Jedco has designed a series of on-street products to support the City of Toronto’s new wayfinding system, to help fulfil their ambition of aiding pedestrians to move around the city.

The flagship ‘TO360’ scheme is a city wide system of totems and fingerposts, developed with wayfinding experts Steer. We helped to generate initial concepts, working closely with stakeholders to develop a design language that was unique to Toronto, and appropriate in the wide range of streetscape environments, from the downtown financial district to suburban residential neighbourhoods.

Sustainable design

The product range was designed to be highly adaptable, with consideration of the whole life-cycle costing.

We then produced full technical drawings for manufacture, ensuring cost effective solutions, with appropriate detailing for vandal resistance and the high variables in temperature found in the city. Visuals and photo-realistic renders enabled the city authorities to gain feedback and acceptance of the scheme through consultations with local residents and disability groups.

Following a pilot scheme, Jedco prepared details for a full scale roll-out programme, aiding the stakeholders in their evaluation of manufacturing partners, and supervising the manufacture to ensure the client’s requirements for quality were met.
